Lakeview on Mission
What is Missions?
Missions in simply evangelism across some sort of barrier. That barrier can be geographic, social status, race, language or anything. Missions is carrying out the Great Commission that Jesus set for us in Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came and to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age'.”
In the church, mission activities are often associated with community service, giving or helps as a means to reach across the existing barrier to give the Good News of the Gospel and watch the Good News transform lives.
Current Mission Focuses
For the month of October through November, Lakeview is collecting donations for Operation Christmas Child. Collections are due by the 2nd week of November. Operation Christmas Child was created in 1990 by Dave Cooke and his wife Gill for children in Romania. Each November thousands of churches, groups and individual donors prepare and collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other small gifts. A booklet of bible stories is often distributed alongside the shoebox gifts which are given to children based on need alone, regardless of their faith. These boxes are then distributed overseas by volunteers. As of April 2015, over 124 million boxes have been delivered.
