Scripture Focus: Isaiah 40:1–5; 52:7–10
“Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God…” (Isaiah 40:1)
CHAPTER ONE: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ISAIAH
Before the Gospel writers penned their accounts, the prophet Isaiah gave us a stunning portrait of redemption. In chapters 40–55, Isaiah speaks not only to his own generation but to every heart longing for hope. These are not empty promises: they are divine declarations.
A MESSAGE OF COMFORT
Isaiah 40:1–2
After chapters of judgment, God’s voice changes. He speaks comfort over His people. Their warfare is over. God has pardoned their iniquity. This is where the Gospel begins, not with what we must do, but with what God has already done.
A VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS
Isaiah 40:3–5
“Prepare ye the way of the LORD.” John the Baptist would spoke these words, but the preparation begins in every heart. The valleys are lifted. The mountains made low. The crooked made straight. The glory of the Lord will be revealed and we are invited to see it together.
BEAUTIFUL FEET BRING GOOD NEWS
Isaiah 52:7–10
Across the hills comes a messenger. He proclaims peace. He declares salvation. “Thy God reigneth!” Isaiah’s vision stretches beyond Jerusalem; “all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.”
A SERVANT WHO WILL SAVE
Isaiah is preparing us for Someone. A Servant is coming.
- He will be gentle (ch. 42),
- Obedient (ch. 50),
- Pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).
This is no ordinary servant: it is Jesus. The Gospel is not a doctrine alone: it is a Person.
INVITATION: SET YOUR EYES ON THE SERVANT
This summer, walk with us through the Gospel according to Isaiah. Read slowly. Reflect deeply. Respond personally. Let these ancient words refresh your faith and restore your hope.
Come. The Servant is calling. The Gospel is here.
