Sermon Four: The God Who Reigns Sovereign Over Every Nation

The Gospel According to Isaiah

Sunday, July 20th, 2025

Scripture Focus: Isaiah 41:1–7

Anchor Verse: β€œI the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.” (Isaiah 41:4)

Isaiah now shifts the scene to a cosmic courtroom. The LORD summons the nations to silence, declaring His sovereign rule over history. The same God who comforts His people is the One who controls kings, nations, and time itself.

THE SUMMONING OF THE NATIONS

Isaiah 41:1

β€œKeep silence before me, O islands.” The nations are called to stand before God in reverence. This is not a debate; it is a judgment. Before His throne, human pride is silenced.

THE RAISING OF THE RIGHTEOUS CONQUEROR

Isaiah 41:2–3

Who raised up this β€œrighteous man from the east”? God did. History is not random; the hand of the Almighty writes it. Whether this refers to Abraham, Cyrus, or both, the point is clear: God raises rulers and uses them for His purposes.

THE ETERNAL LORD OF HISTORY

Isaiah 41:4

β€œI the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he.” God declares His eternal nature. He was there at the beginning. He will be there at the end, and He governs every generation in between.

THE FUTILITY OF HUMAN ALLIANCES

Isaiah 41:5–7

The nations tremble and rush to build idols, strengthening one another’s false hopes. But no alliance, no idol, no human effort can stand against the will of the Sovereign Lord.

INVITATION: REST IN THE GOD WHO REIGNS

In a world obsessed with political power and fearful of global shifts, Isaiah calls us to rest in the One who reigns over every nation. Trust Him, not human governments. Worship Him, not man-made idols.

Be still. The Sovereign Lord is on His throne.

Come. The Servant is calling. The Gospel is here.
