Scripture Focus: Isaiah 40:1-11
“Behold Your God! (Isaiah 40:9b)
CHAPTER Two: Four Divine Voices
Each voice in Isaiah 40 lifts us beyond our present circumstances to behold the faithfulness and majesty of God.
The Voice of Comfort (Isaiah 40:1–2)
God begins not with wrath, but with reassurance. His opening command is repeated twice: “Comfort ye, comfort ye my people.”
Key Declarations:
- Her warfare is accomplished.
- Her iniquity is pardoned.
- She has received double for her sins.
God’s comfort is covenantal, not conditional. God’s comfort is grounded in His grace, not our goodness.
The Voice in the Wilderness (Isaiah 40:3–5)
John the Baptist prepared the way of the Lord, fulfilling the call.
Key Applications:
- Prepare the path.
- Level the terrain.
- Expect the glory.
God’s glory comes to those who prepare their hearts. What needs to be straightened in your walk today?
The Voice of Permanence (Isaiah 40:6–8)
God’s Word contrasts with the frailty of man.
Three Eternal Contrasts:
1. Flesh withers — God’s Word stands.
2. Human glory fades — God’s promises endure.
3. Man’s breath fails — God’s breath gives life.
When all else fails, stand on what will not crumble. “The word of our God shall stand for ever.”
The Voice of Revelation (Isaiah 40:9–11)
Zion is commissioned to proclaim: “Behold your God!”
Key Truths:
- He rules with a strong hand.
- He carries His flock in tenderness.
- He leads gently, especially the weak.
In Jesus Christ, strength and gentleness meet. He is the sovereign Shepherd we long for.
Reflection: Your God is Here
This chapter begins where all true gospel preaching must begin: not in judgment, but in mercy.
“Behold your God!”
Have you lifted your eyes to Him today?
He speaks comfort, levels your rough places, anchors you in eternal truth, and leads you home.
Come. The Servant is calling. The Gospel is here.
